In the rousing conclusion to Mecha Month, Bobcat and Burkion get out of
the 80s and look at a more recent show, Asura Cryin'. There's ghosts,
demons, Vatican demon hunters, cyborgs, scientists and... aha, there's
the mecha. I knew it was hiding in there somewhere.

Getter Robo Review
In
this episode, Bobcat and Burkion get FIRED UP! From anime legend Go
Nogai, we get the adventures of three extremely stereotypical teenagers
having incredibly formulaic adventures. And yet, formulas are formulas
for a reason.

Finally, here's a clip showing the theme song and opening, which is what brought the anime to my (Bobcat's) attention.

Mobile Suit Gundam Review
Mecha
Month continues full steam ahead! We're hot blooded and raring for
action! We believe in ourselves, who believe in ourselves! This meme
doesn't work for more than one person!
Four score and eight years after humanity has gone to the stars! A
ragtag crew of Earthlings must fight off a group of colonists gone
rogue. Their only hope is a young boy named Amero and his giant robot,
the prototype Gundam. How did we treat this venerable series that
launched quite possibly the greatest anime franchise ever? As well as we
treat anything.
...
We are so so very sorry.

Beast King Go Lion Review
To bring Mecha Month into full swing (after our April Fools debacle... ugh.), we start off with Beast King Go Lion or, as it's called in America, Voltron: Defender of the Universe. We selected this show because we wanted to see what they'd changed.
... how can two shows be so similar, yet so completely different?
You'll just have to watch to find out.

Mecha Month! Schedule Update 3/28/12
Firstly, we're happy to announce (formally) that April will be Mecha Month. We'll be looking at a mostly older shows, with one more contemporary show to keep us from getting HOT BLOODED 70S AND 80S MECHA ANIME poisoning.
And yes, that's a thing. And yes, I had to post that in all caps. The hot bloodedness made me.
Our April schedule is:
4/1: Neon Genesis Evangelion (Mecha Month)
4/8: Beast King Go Lion (Mecha Month)
4/15: Mobile Suit Gundam (Mecha Month)
4/22: Getter Robo G (Mecha Month)
4.29: Asura Cryin' (Mecha Month)
Now for some housekeeping.
It's been about two months since the last time we did a post on schedule updates; we've managed to get through most of the anime we'd had on the docket at the time. What inspired this post is an e-mail from one "Angel of the Wolf," who made a whole bunch of requests all at once. Beyond April, the schedule gets hazy, and we'd like you, the viewers, to tell us which shows you'd like to see us take on.

Also, since there's been some confusion: we don't review hentai. Sorry, it's just outside our comfort zones.
