Scheduling Update
Due to my (Bobcat's) sister getting married soon, combined with the holiday season, we're going to let the anniversary special take the place of this week's review. To compensate, when we get to Tiger and Bunny around New Years, we're going to look at more episodes.
Peace.

The World God Only Knows Review
Five Point Podcast Episode 40: The World God... by fivepointpodcast
The World God Only Knows: It's The Last Starfighter, only with more Dating Sims and fewer clones and aliens. It's also a premise that requires a master touch. Does this show work or fall flat on its NERD face? Guess you'll just have to watch.

Friend of the show C. L. Collins has recently published a fantasy e-book called Patchwork Ties. You should check it out. He's a cool dude and he writes good stories. Here's the summary from the website:

Opinionated Young Justice Review Pilot
This is a video that I (Bobcat) made about a month ago. It was the prototype for a review series about the Young Justice cartoon that I haven't had the time to work on. My biggest issue is a general lack of experience with video editing, and fear of copyright violations that would be involved in using the footage from the show, resulting in issues with using still frames from the show.
With that glowing recommendation, enjoy!

Policy and Scheduling Change Announcements
Hitler finds out the Five Point Podcast is... by fivepointpodcast
The videos should explain sufficiently what we're doing. To sum it up,
1) We're switching from doing the podcast weekly to every other week (biweekly). With work and real life, we don't have time to devote every single weekend to the podcast anymore.
2) We're closing requests. We have too many at this point, and it's only fair to the people who have already made requests that we don't drown them out under new requests. If we get through the list, we'll reopen them at some point.
That's all. If there are any questions or comments, leave them below.

The Legend of Korra Season 1 Review

No update this week. We'll be pushing back Legend of Korra to this weekend. It's all recorded, but it'll be a long one, and I've had no time to edit. Apologies all around, but I think 7 months with no missed updates entitles us to the occasional mulligan.

009-1 Review
This
week, we look at 009-1, a series that, much to our surprise, is mostly
unrelated to the classic Cyborg 009. In a world where the Cold War never
ended, one cyborg woman must use the powers of lasers and seduction (not
in that order) to save... democracy?

Black Lagoon Review
All good things must come to an end, and so we close out Paint It Black month
with a DOUBLE request; yes, when we mentioned we were doing Paint It
Black month, we got a request from Runixzan and Paranormal Rob, and
Yerocha also mentioned being surprised we hadn't included it in the
initial list. With that much hype, and the fact that it's about modern
day pirates, this has to be good, right? Right?
Edit: In the video, I call requester Runixzan a woman. He is not. I'm not sure why I thought what I thought; I am so sorry for that.

Paint It Black Addendum
So, it came to my attention, looking at a calendar, that there's an extra week of Paint It Black month that I failed to take into account.
See, here's the deal. We haven't updated on Sundays for a long time. We officially do, but it's a legal fiction, more or less. We update on Fridays or Saturdays these days, since we figure we want people to have the time to listen over the weekend. Sunday is sort of the absolute last minute we post anything, if schedules went horribly awry, and we haven't had anything come out later than Saturday since March.
Yet, for scheduling, I still say it's Sunday, to give us that wiggle room. But that means that in terms of our REAL schedule, there's one more Friday and Saturday in June that has to be filled, and it might as well be for the theme month.
too long, didn't read version: I goofed on basic calendar reading skills.
So, Paint It Black Month will now end on Black Lagoon, requested by Runixzan. (http://www.youtube.com/user/Runixzan)

After some soul searching, we've decided to discontinue these YouTube

In Black Blood Brothers, we see what happens when a writer creates a series using the Mad Lib Method. I've used it myself. You'll just have to watch the review to find out.

Hey guys, I just heard that Toonami's back!
Much to my shock, the new Toonami includes Casshern Sins. I must say that I was honestly shocked when I saw it on the list, given how grim and, frankly, weird it is.
Hm... it seems to me some clever and handsome reviewers did a review of Casshern a few months back, with the help of a certain manga blogger guest star... (wink wink)

The Least Popular Reviews
As I go over the blip.tv statistics, I realize that (gasp) people are more interested in some series than they are in others. This saddens me, since some of the more neglected reviews are also some of my favorites. So, in an attempt to convince you (the listeners at home) to give these reviews a second shot, here are the five reviews that were the least listened to (taking into account how long they've been up on the site), in order from most to least:
1. Origin: Spirits of the Past
2. Heroman
3. Getter Robo
4. Time of Eve
5. Asura Cryin'
This leads me to ask why some of these are overlooked. We've attempted to do a mix of the obscure and the popular, and it seems like popular series are the most listened to. Why is there less demand for obscure titles? I would personally expect there to be more demand for the obscure, since that's where a review would be really helpful in guiding you towards something you've never heard of before. We'd be interested in what everyone out there had to say on the topic.

Bobcat's Recommended Reviews
I've recently gone back and listened to a few of the old podcasts and I realized something: we are really self referential. That is to say, we have in jokes and we compare characters to characters in other works we've reviewed without a lot of explanations. This is a bit daunting for new viewers, I realize. So, in the interest of helping new visitors out, here's my list of reviews that we refer to the most. If you listen to no other old podcast episodes, these five ought to help you make sense of new ones.
Baka and Test First review, first use of the character description "Pink Haired Girl."
Tales From Earthsea Our first movie, and one we often refer back to when it comes to nonsensical plot twists.
Origin: Spirits of the Past Our second movie, which we refer to when it comes to dumb protagonists and villains who are the real heroess.
Misfits Our April Fools episode, which made Super Rape a power. Possibly the worst thing we've reviewed yet.
Mobile Suit Gundam We like to make fun of the main character, Amuro, by saying his name strangely.

Poll Results- YouTube Videos
A few weeks back, we posted a poll. You see, initially, a lot of the traffic we got here was through our YouTube page. The way we'd try to attract viewers was via silly little 30 second commercials. However, for whatever reason (I suspect my friend Hika's viewers aren't interested in our videos anymore, and she's nice enough to give them a "Like" every time), traffic from them is way down. With such a small number of views, we decided to ask if people still enjoyed them and if they were worth the time and effort.
The results: out of 16 votes, we got the following responses.
8: Yes. They're amusing.
5: No. Quit while you're ahead.
3: I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
Since the yays outweigh the nays, we'll keep making them. Thanks to everyone who voted.

Mobile Suit Gundam Review
Mecha
Month continues full steam ahead! We're hot blooded and raring for
action! We believe in ourselves, who believe in ourselves! This meme
doesn't work for more than one person!
Four score and eight years after humanity has gone to the stars! A
ragtag crew of Earthlings must fight off a group of colonists gone
rogue. Their only hope is a young boy named Amero and his giant robot,
the prototype Gundam. How did we treat this venerable series that
launched quite possibly the greatest anime franchise ever? As well as we
treat anything.
...
We are so so very sorry.

Beast King Go Lion Review
To bring Mecha Month into full swing (after our April Fools debacle... ugh.), we start off with Beast King Go Lion or, as it's called in America, Voltron: Defender of the Universe. We selected this show because we wanted to see what they'd changed.
... how can two shows be so similar, yet so completely different?
You'll just have to watch to find out.

In this episode, Bobcat and Burkion tackle one of the sacred cows of the
anime community: Neon Genesis Evangelion. Did it make a (third) impact
on us, or did we want to run away?

Mecha Month! Schedule Update 3/28/12
Firstly, we're happy to announce (formally) that April will be Mecha Month. We'll be looking at a mostly older shows, with one more contemporary show to keep us from getting HOT BLOODED 70S AND 80S MECHA ANIME poisoning.
And yes, that's a thing. And yes, I had to post that in all caps. The hot bloodedness made me.
Our April schedule is:
4/1: Neon Genesis Evangelion (Mecha Month)
4/8: Beast King Go Lion (Mecha Month)
4/15: Mobile Suit Gundam (Mecha Month)
4/22: Getter Robo G (Mecha Month)
4.29: Asura Cryin' (Mecha Month)
Now for some housekeeping.
It's been about two months since the last time we did a post on schedule updates; we've managed to get through most of the anime we'd had on the docket at the time. What inspired this post is an e-mail from one "Angel of the Wolf," who made a whole bunch of requests all at once. Beyond April, the schedule gets hazy, and we'd like you, the viewers, to tell us which shows you'd like to see us take on.

Chi's Sweet Home (Request from Angel of the Wolf)
Guilty Crown (Request from Runixzan)

Gun Frontier (Request from Angel of the Wolf)
Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (No matter what, this one is getting done in May.)

The World God Only Knows (Request by Yerocha)

Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School (Request by Sloth)
The World God Only Knows (Request by Yerocha)
Trigun: Badlands Rumble (this one will have to wait until it's available to stream somewhere, or we get physical copies of the DVD. It's just on our long range "to do" list.)
Also, since there's been some confusion: we don't review hentai. Sorry, it's just outside our comfort zones.
If you listeners at home have a request of your own, or you just want to chime in on which of these you'd like to see us do sooner, you can comment below or e-mail us at darthbobcat@gmail.com.

AMV of the Week #3
This week it was my turn. I decided to whip out one of my favorite AMVs, featuring an anime that I enjoy on occasion with a version of a song I love. I really wish they'd just put this cover on iTunes already. I've been waiting since, like, 2003 for it to go up. Ah well.

Time of Eve Review
This week, we did a request by MadShadow, over at the Desu Des Brigade Forums.
In the not too distant future (somewhere in time and space)... In what is most likely Japan, humanlike androids are as common as toaster ovens. Yes, that's right. Everyone has a robot maid... but apparently, nobody uses them for naughty purposes. Maybe this isn't Japan after all...

Friday Randomness #3
It's that time again! This time it was Bobcat's turn. This one combines two of Bobcat's favorite anime. Video after the break.
Rules Changes-Requests
In the past, we always said that we'd immediately dump whatever we were currently reviewing in favor of requests. However, that was before we started having a firm plan for our reviews a month or more in advance. In light of that, from here on out, review requests will be done in a timely manner, but will not NECESSARILY knock our schedule out of whack. Mainly, I'm covering my butt so we don't have to mess with April's Mecha Month.
However, on the flip side: in the past, we've also said to shoot for the obscure. However, go ahead and request your heart out. Even if we have prior exposure, we'll give it a shot.

Coyote Ragtime Show Review
This time, we went into a show blind. We knew nothing about it, we knew nothing about the popular opinion of it, we didn't even know its genre. But we knew one thing:
It had one of the greatest titles ever.
It also had one of the worst titles ever.
Such is the magic of Engrish.

Friday Randomness #1
I've decided to introduce a new feature around here. Every week,
Burkion or myself will choose the most random online vid we've seen all
week and post them here for your enjoyment. They won't always be anime
related, they won't always be in good taste and they won't always be,
y'know, GOOD... but they will supply 50% of your FDA daily recommended
dose of random.

And yes, I'm aware this was in fact posted really late Thursday. Hey, it's Friday somewhere, right?

It's that time again! Time for us to combine our last few YouTube commercials for the enjoyment of people who want to see them again, or for the enjoyment of people who found us through different methods and haven't seen them before.

Episode 10: Fate/Stay Night
Woohoo! Ten episodes! And you all thought we'd collapse after a month.
Well, we showed you!
... ahem.
In this episode, Bobcat and Burkion look at Fate/Stay Night at the request of Bobcat's friend Thanqol. In a world like our own, teen magicians battle one another for the fate of the world. Also, it's a show that eerily resembles a dating sim that cleaned itself up after a stint in rehab.

Origin: Spirits of the Past Review
This
week, Bobcat and Burkion look at Origin: Spirits of the Past, a

In a post apocalyptic
future, it's technology versus a biological hivemind for the future of
the planet. Only one unlikely hero, chosen as the representative of the
hivemind, can defeat the coming technological genocide.

Squid Girl Review
In this episode, Bobcat and Burkion look at the show Squid Girl (also known as Invasion Squid Girl, depending on which localization you look at). Squid Girl is the story of a young girl with a squid on her head and her goal of subjugating the human race. Did we have a taste for calamari, or did we toss it back?

Gravitation Review
In
this episode, Bobcat and Burkion tackle a shounen ai show. Gravitation
is the story of two young men trying to make it in the cutthroat world
of J-Pop, and the budding (?) romance between one of the band members
and an emotionally distant and abusive novelist. Did this series draw us
in, or did it plummet to Earth at a rate of 9.8 meters per second

Heat Guy J Review
Hi everyone. After nearly a month (I can't believe it was that
long), Burkion and I return with our review of Heat Guy J, from the
creator of The Vision of Escaflowne. Did we like it, or were we left
cold?
Also, a quick update on the schedule. Although we said at the end of the video that our next review would be Ponyo, Netflix took it down from its streaming list. Don't worry, we'll find something else to review from Studio Ghibli (I'd say what it was, but I don't want to jinx us; this is the second time that something I'd been working on was torpedoed because Netflix picked the wrong week to take something down).

A Quick Explanation
As you may have noticed, we didn't update for Christmas, Boxing Day or New Years. This is because I (Bobcat) had some technical problems. The hard drive for my laptop died at 12:15 on Christmas Night (thus ruining Boxing Day, but not Christmas). It's currently over at Dell (hooray for warranties), and new episode production is stalled until it comes back, which will hopefully be soon. Sorry for the delays and I hope everyone had a good holiday season.
